An ENT, or otolaryngologist, is a doctor who specializes in the ears, nose, and throat. They diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including ear infections, sinus infections, allergies, and hearing loss. ENT’s may also perform surgery to correct or repair problems in these areas.
ENT’s use a variety of methods to diagnose and treat conditions, including:
– Physical exams: ENT’s will examine the patient’s ears, nose and throat to look for any signs of problems.
– Imaging tests: ENT’s may order imaging tests, such as X-rays, CT-scans or MRI’s, to get a better look at the inside of the problem area.
– Endoscopy: ENT’s may use an endoscope; a thin, flexible tube with a camera on the end, to look inside the ear, nose or throat.
– Laboratory tests: ENT’s may order laboratory tests, such as blood tests or cultures, to help diagnose infections and such.
